Environmental Fuel Surcharge (EFS)

Dear Valued Customer,

With effect from 1st January 2020, the IMO global cap for the Sulphur content in fuel oil used on board ships will be adjusted from 3.5% m/m to 0.5% m/m (mass by mass). This new regulation will significantly improve the carbon footprint of the Maritime Industry, leading to a greener environment, thus benefiting the global community.

United Africa Feeder Line will introduce an Environmental Fuel Surcharge (EFS) to cover the increase in fuel-related costs associated with the implementation of the IMO 2020 regulation. This will be done in 2 stages:
Firstly, effective from 1st December 2019, as our vessels start the process of switching over to the new low sulphur fuel.
Secondly, effective from 1st January 2020, when the IMO global cap becomes fully implemented.

The EFS tariffs have been calculated using the price difference between high sulphur fuel and low sulphur fuel, multiplied by a trade factor. Please find the quantum in the tables below for the 1st stage of implementation.
